STORAGE TANK AND DOSING STATION FOR THE FORTH TREATMENT STAGE

Alltech supplied a storage tank for chemicals with dosing station for an expansion of a wastewater treatment plant with the fourth treatment stage.

Municipalities invest in the expansion of wastewater treatment plants with the fourth treatment stage in order to filter out micropollutants such as residues of pharmaceuticals from the wastewater.  The fourth treatment stage – after rake clarification, primary clarification and biological treatment – can be carried out by activated carbon filtration.

In activated carbon filtration, powdered activated carbon is added to the wastewater in a contact basin. During the mixing of wastewater and powdered activated carbon, trace substances accumulate on the activated carbon particles. Afterwards, the mixture of wastewater and activated carbon particles is fed into a sedimentation basin. In the sedimentation basin, the activated carbon is separated from the wastewater again. This process is improved by adding precipitants (ferric chloride). The sedimented activated carbon is then removed from the wastewater.

In a current project with the aim of setting up the 4th treatment stage in a municipal wastewater treatment plant, Alltech supplied a storage tank for FeCl3 for outdoor installation with climbing ladder, back protection and platform. The storage tank has a usable volume of 25 m³. The TABESY tank filling system is used for easy and safe filling with chemicals.

A dosing station with 8 piston-diaphragm dosing pumps with intelligent control iReg is used to dose the precipitant into the inlet of the filtration or into the outlet of the powdered activated carbon contact basin.
